_ No. “Dots” is still a usable tag.

(Yes I know exactly what you meant)

If it were a newer model, that could be a factory BMW designation and no one would bat an eye. “Oh, well obviously that’s the rare M323i M3 M-drive Ci23isx323iM package, with the exclusive matching colorway shift gaiter.”

I need a new one for my 528i but a new OEM woodgrain one is about $200

For $200... I’d pick up the Motorsport golfball, ZHP & Performance knobs (Mostly aluminum so... maybe not in southern states) :D

I want to try to keep the car stock looking. It not the sporty 5-series so there’s no point in trying to pretend it is.

I don’t know if your knob is the same way but mine clips onto the lever with four tabs that form a circle. Two of those tabs have broken off, so occasionally the knob will pop off if you shift too agressively.

All knobs ‘82 to present have that same stupid design. I wish it was a screw down type.

I paid $50 shipped through a wholeseller based in Germany for mine which is cheaper than a replacement OEM one. Plus, there is no way to really de-stinkify an old shifter.

Reminds me of a “C300 AMG” I once saw

Someone once stole the leather knob to my E34 right off the counter at my favorite parts shop. I left it sitting there for a minute whilst I went back to help them with a computer problem. They felt bad about it and gave me a replacement, although it was just the cheap plastic version, a far cry from leather.

I’m gonna have to buy a cheap one, I really can’t afford another woodgrain one. Go on ebay or amazon and search “bmw walnut shift knob”.

I don’t need to search to know it’s ridiculous. I had to buy the base Sport trim on my Mazda5 to get the manual, and as a result I don’t get the leather steering wheel or shift knob. Surprisingly, it’s cheaper to get a used leather wheel than it is to get a nice factory leather shift knob. Searching for a replacement leather knob for the E34 was also an eye-opening experience.
